THE PERSON BEHIND THE WALL
I’m Ivan Bodnar, an independent renovation specialist based in Melbourne. I work as a sole trader. When you ask me about your bathroom, you’re talking to the person who will assess it, explain the work and be responsible for it through to completion.
My focus is on complete residential bathroom renovations in Malvern and surrounding suburbs. I care most about the layers you never see once the job is finished: proper preparation and suitable materials, so the result lasts.
Joint compound worked flat with a wide finishing trowel. Preparation that disappears under the finish.
WHERE I LEARNED
I began learning residential renovation work beside my father. That’s where I picked up practical experience across many parts of home improvement and finishing work. It taught me early that a neat surface means little if the work behind it was rushed.
Over about 15 years of residential renovations, that grounding grew into the areas I specialise in today: bathroom renovations, tiling, flooring, plasterboard installation, plastering and interior finishing. I’ve worked in Australia since 2016 and in Melbourne since 2019, and in that time I’ve worked with more than 1000 customers.
There’s no sales layer and no hand-off to someone you haven’t met. See how a bathroom renovation works with me, step by step.
VALUE — HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY
I believe you should get clear information about the proposed work, its limitations and any uncertainties. That’s why I inspect a bathroom before I quote. Existing conditions, materials and preparation all shape the job, and a detailed quote generally needs an on-site assessment. I won’t give you an instant fixed price on a room I haven’t seen.
MISSION
My aim is to help Melbourne homeowners improve their properties with practical, carefully considered residential renovation work. In a bathroom, that usually means fixing what has become outdated, hard to maintain, badly laid out or worn, and doing the groundwork properly so the new finish lasts.
If you’re curious about that groundwork, I’ve written about what the visible finish doesn’t tell you.

WHERE MY WORK STARTS AND STOPS
I personally carry out the renovation work I specialise in, such as wall and floor tiling and plasterboard, plastering and interior finishing.
Plumbing, electrical and other regulated work is completed by appropriately licensed specialists where required, and I may coordinate their involvement in your renovation. I don’t offer a 24-hour emergency plumbing or electrical service. Read more about plumbing, electrical and regulated work.
WHERE I WORK
I’m based in Melbourne and take on bathroom renovations in Malvern and the surrounding suburbs, depending on availability and assessment. If your bathroom is starting to work against you, the simplest first step is to request a quote and arrange an on-site assessment. We can talk through what you’d like to change, and what the room needs underneath.
